Creating YOUR CV

Make sure your CV is concise – some people say no more than 1 or 2 pages – we go AGAINST this advice as we would rather see all relevant experience – so DO NOT stress if your CV is slightly longer!

Your CV is the main tool employers use to find out about you in terms of the skills and experience you have gained, but they’re time-short, so make your key selling points snappy.

CVs should be tailored to each role you apply for, but to save time, first create a general one, which can be easily adapted for each employer based on their job description.

Contact Details: Add the phone number and email address that you use most often. You don’t want to miss an interview opportunity by omitting your details or having a typo or old contact details on here.

Summary: Ensure the first section at the top of your CV is a summary of your professional experience but remember to include specific experience in relation to the job you have applied for. Use phrases that reflect those used in the job ad.

Talk about the business or project successes while highlighting your skills and experience. Don’t leave any gaps, make sure dates flow– if you took a year out, travelled for a few months or carried out an interim assignment, add it in – it stops an employer wondering what you were doing or if it’s a typo!
